Until recently, society at large and popular culture have largely overlooked transgender rights, and the transgender community has been underserved in terms of resources, role models with extensive platforms, and visibility. Furthermore, the transgender community has been especially vulnerable to physical assaults, discrimination, hate crimes, and disproportionately high rates of depression and suicide. This series highlights some of the important social, legal, and health issues faced by the trans community to provide guidance and trusted information for readers who may be trans or want to strengthen their role as an ally to the transgender community.
