Eye on Historical Sources
Analyzing primary sources is an essential skill for
elementary students to cultivate. By viewing, interpreting, and discussing
primary sources from key moments in history, students gain a better
understanding of those moments and the events surrounding them. Other important
skills are also reinforced, including critical thinking and analysis and the
ability to compare perspectives. Readers will make essential connections between
historical events?including the Battle of the Alamo, the fight for women's
suffrage, and the construction of the Erie Canal?and the resources used to study
them. These books encourage readers to ask questions about historical sources
and determine answers based on what they see and know about history. In this
way, the primary sources become the evidence needed to answer essential
historical questions.
