Understanding Iran
Since the hostage crisis in 1979-80, the U.S. has avoided high-level diplomacy with Iran. Recently, however, Iran's huge oil and natural gas reserves, its proximity to Iraq, and its push to develop a nuclear energy program has made the country an important player not only in the Middle East but on the international stage as well. This series takes a closer look at Iran, its leaders, and its people. How will the country wield its newfound influence?

Series Review: Understanding Iran"Overall these are well-written and informative books that should help adolescents gain a better understanding of Iran and its relationship with the United States...The books are well-organized, clear, and easy to read...The glossary that explains unusual words, a list of organizations that offeres more information, additional reading suggestions, and a comprehensive bibliography add to their usefulness. One useful teaching point could be to have students research some of the ideas or facts presented to gain a different perspective on the issues...this series would make a valuable addition to school libraries and a resource for classrooms. RECOMMENDED."
