True Stories of Survival

Survivor Stories

Tsunamis have been increasingly in the news and in people's awareness since the disastrous Indian Ocean tsunami in December 2004. In this title, tsunamis are defined and remarkable survival stories are described. Readers will learn that over the centuries, people have survived major tsunamis due to their knowledge, strength, and sometimes, because of assistance or just plain luck. Tsunamis covered in the book include: the Indian Ocean tsunami in December 2004; early (1600 and 1700s) tsunamis in the Pacific Northwest and Lisbon, Portugal; and tsunamis that over the years, have hit areas of Asia, Hawaii, and Papua New Guinea.

Series Review--
"With their small size, colorful covers, and high-interest titles, these books will likely appeal to reluctant readers. Older students may shy away from these books, thinking they are for younger students, but once they find the pages in the back that list all the additional resources, older students will look for this series, too.
