Each one combines bright color photos of different forms of the machine being (safely) used with simply worded explanations, and closes with a low-tech demonstration that does not involve any measurements or calculations. Though Gosman includes some historical notes, it's the demonstrated ubiquity of levers, wedges, and the rest in implements from wheelbarrows and chopsticks to cheese graters and baseball bats that will make the strongest impression."
