The Department of Homeland Security
Until the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the United States had felt invulnerable to enemy attack for much of its history. That sense of security was shattered that day. America's vulnerability and the need for the government to restore a sense of security and protection created a real need for the Department of Homeland Security which was formed in 2002. The department's often controversial powers and the many agencies that have been gathered together under its umbrella are discussed. The book also describes the likely threats and danger the department faces in the twenty-first century.
