Book Review: Solar Eclipses
"It's been a surprisingly long time since solar eclipses have been written about for this age group. This title clearly and succinctly introduces the science, history, and technology behind a phenomenon that brings awe to everyone who experiences one. A historical perspective is given, as are the Earth's and moon's orbits, the geometry of rations, and the atmosphere of the sun. Total, partial, annular, and rare hybrid eclipses are defined and compared. The technology used to view solar eclipses is mentioned along with information on how people can safely watch a solar eclipse. The book is illustrated with photos from various sources. Diagrams, graphs, and labels are included to clarify some of the scientific principles...this new look at solar eclipses nicely updates the topic and will be a great addition to most collections. RECOMMENDED."
