Israel's War of Independence

War and Conflict in the Middle East

When UN Resolution 181 established the State of Israel in 1947, Israel was immediately attacked by Arab armies from Egypt, Syria, and Jordan, and internally by Palestinians. The argument over the land, then known as Palestine, had raged between Palestinians and Jews for more than fifty years and had now turned to war. This book examines the battles between the two sides and also looks at the history behind both the Jewish and Palestinian claims to the land.
